BIOGRAPHY
Moritz Gnann

Welcome and Thank You for Visiting!
I’m Moritz Gnann, a conductor based in Berlin, Germany.
My work spans both symphonic and operatic stages around the world, embracing repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day. As a conductor, I feel fortunate to explore such a vast treasure of music — each score offering its own world of colour and emotion. It’s hard to define a single focus, but composers I feel particularly close to at the moment include Richard Wagner, Ludwig van Beethoven and Antonín Dvořák.
I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with orchestras and opera houses such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and Semperoper Dresden. I hope this site offers a glimpse into my artistic path and the collaborations that continue to shape and inspire my work.
Renowned for his clarity of gesture, stylistic insight and vivid sense of musical architecture, Moritz Gnann has earned critical praise across a wide symphonic and operatic repertoire spanning from the Renaissance to contemporary music.
A frequent guest with leading European orchestras and opera houses, Moritz Gnann has conducted productions at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Leipzig Opera and Volksoper Wien, among others. Recent highlights include Tosca at Leipzig Opera, Káťa Kabanová at Staatstheater Kassel and La Bohème at the Soirées Lyriques de Sanxay.
Equally in demand on the concert stage, he has appeared with orchestras such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Badische Staatskapelle, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Belgrade Philharmonic and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. His programs often combine the classical canon with 20th- and 21st-century works, featuring composers from Gabrieli to Knussen, Henze and George Benjamin.
Moritz Gnann served as Assistant Conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the mentorship of Andris Nelsons, making his highly acclaimed debut with Mahler’s First Symphony at Tanglewood, followed by subscription concerts at Boston Symphony Hall. Earlier in his career, after starting as a répétiteur in Aachen, he held key posts at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, the Landestheater Coburg and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He was also a member of the Bayreuth Festival team for several seasons.
Born in Tübingen, Germany, Moritz Gnann studied conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hochschule für Musik Dresden. He first pursued studies in economics before dedicating himself fully to music. He has recently returned to his alma mater as Lecturer in Conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts, continuing to balance an active international career with a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of musicians.
